Most financial websites are run by content teams who have never placed a trade. GainSumo is different — everything published here comes from someone actively managing a real portfolio, running real options strategies, and living with the results.
Who’s Behind This Site
I’m Jean. I went to college for business, built a career in HR, and did everything I was supposed to do — degree, good job, work my way up. For a long time that felt like enough. Then it didn’t.
I started looking for a way out. Not because I hate what I do, but because financial freedom — the kind where work becomes a choice rather than a requirement — felt like something worth building toward. I just didn’t know how.
I didn’t think options trading was possible for someone like me. No finance background, no trading experience, no idea where to start. Then I made my first $100 from a covered call. That was it. That one trade changed everything — not because $100 is life-changing money, but because it proved the mechanism worked. If it worked once, it could work repeatedly. If it could work repeatedly, it could scale.
I started in November 2025. Right now, I’m generating around $3,200 a month from a single position. My goal is $10,000–$15,000 a month by August 2027 — enough to make my job optional. I’m building toward that in public, on this site, with full transparency. Every strategy, every position, every lesson learned along the way.
Nobody told me this was possible. I’m telling you now.
Why I Built This Site
I couldn’t find a financial resource that sat in the right place — detailed enough to actually execute, but clear enough to understand without a finance degree. Everything was either too simple to be useful or too complex to be actionable. So I built what I couldn’t find.
GainSumo exists for the person I was two years ago. The one who assumed this world was for someone else — someone with an MBA, a Bloomberg terminal, or a fund behind them. It’s not. It never was.
My Current Focus
Running a covered call income portfolio with a long-term goal of replacing traditional income through options premiums. Researching and reviewing broker platforms based on real trading experience. Documenting strategies I actually use — not theory.
How This Site Works
Every piece of content on GainSumo falls into one of two categories:
Strategies I use myself. Covered calls, cash-secured puts, The Wheel — these aren’t theoretical frameworks pulled from a textbook. They’re strategies I apply to my own account, adjust in real time, and write about from direct experience.
Research I do before I write. Broker reviews, fee comparisons, and platform breakdowns are based on current data pulled directly from broker websites, cross-referenced against multiple independent sources, and updated when meaningful changes occur. No broker has ever paid for placement or a rating on this site.
Editorial Standards
Every broker review on this site follows the same structure and rating system across four categories — Trust & Safety, Platform & Tools, Fees & Pricing, and Customer Support. Ratings are assigned independently based on the data, not based on affiliate relationships.
When I recommend a platform, it’s because the data supports it for a specific type of trader. When a platform falls short, I say so directly — including platforms I have affiliate relationships with.
Affiliate Disclosure
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you open an account through one of them, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
This doesn’t change my recommendations. I only link to platforms I would actually consider using myself, and affiliate relationships are never a factor in how I rate or review a broker. You can read the full details on my Affiliate Disclosure page.
What I’m Not
I’m not a licensed financial advisor, and nothing on this site is personalized financial advice. Options trading involves real risk — including the risk of losing money. Everything here is for informational and educational purposes only.
Before making any investment decision, do your own research and consider speaking with a licensed financial professional if you need personalized guidance. You can read the full disclaimer on my Risk Disclaimer page.
The Standard I Hold Myself To
If I wouldn’t put my own money behind it, I won’t recommend it here. That’s the standard.
It’s simple, it’s not always easy, and it’s the only one that makes sense for a site built on these expectations.
